Bude's sandy beaches are the perfect place for body boarding
and surfing, and what's more its great fun!
After a half-hour session in the water, you just won't want to come out,
but
stay in to catch the next big wave to carry you all the way to
the shoreline.
A surfing lesson on Summerleaze beach
Are you a complete beginner, or have done some body
boarding previously, but want to learn how to surf with a
full size board?
Bude has so many beaches to choose from, that you can be
learning to surf most days, as one of the beaches will
provide the right conditions needed.
We recommend The Big Blue surf school (Tel 01288 331 764) which
can provide either a single session, or a few days course while
staying in our cottages.
They can provide wetsuits, and boards
and will meet you on one of Bude beaches to go through the
basics, then have you trying out the techniques in the
water.
With expert teachers, even experienced surfers can benefit
from some tuition from the Big Blue surf school. Many of our
guests have mentioned the enjoyment of their lessons in our
guest book, so we know they appeal to a wide range of abilities.

Each of the beaches in Bude are patrolled by life guards during the summer
season, and by following their guidance, you will find the beaches safe for
swimming, surfing and body boarding. Choose from:
Summerleaze Beach
Crooklets Beach
Widemouth Bay
Northcott Mouth
Sandymouth
There are also other local (un-patrolled) beaches at
Duckpool
Crackington Haven
In our cottages we have information folders with
suggestions and contact details for all sorts of
activities in Cornwall, and Devon (which is only 5 miles
north of Bude). As an alternative surfing, you might like to
hire bikes and take one of the cycle paths, or book a 2
hour session at one of the adventures centres offering
abseiling & rock climbing as well as golf in one of
several courses nearby.
